This course will teach you how to brand your Cascade instance with the logo and color scheme of your organization, to help bring your strategy to life even more.
Cascade will quickly become the heart of running your organization. As such, you want it to look and feel perfectly integrated into your brand. This makes for a great experience for employees or even if you’re using Cascade to showcase your work to other people outside of the organization.
We provide a range of customization options so take advantage and get your setup looking just right.
The only thing you need to have ready is your logo. All types of logo will work, but if you have a choice, rectangular logos generally look better than square ones (due to the size constraints of the header section).
Make sure that the logo file you’re working with is a reasonable size. Too small will result in it looking fuzzy, whilst too big could slow-down the loading of the Cascade system. As a guide, aim for a logo with the following dimensions:
As long as your logo is roughly within these dimensions, you should be fine. If it’s much bigger, consider resizing it to make the Cascade pages load a little faster.
Navigate to Admin – System – Branding. This is where you’ll be doing all of the setup work.
Click the ‘Choose File’ button and search for the logo you want to use.
Once you’ve added the logo, click the ‘Get Palette’ button. The system will then attempt to ‘guess’ what color scheme you want to set for the system based on the colors in the logo file. You can change these later.
Based on the logo you added, the system will have pre-populated some colors into the ‘System Colors’ section. You can modify these colors by clicking into the color boxes and selecting a new color. Here’s a quick guide to how we use the different system colors:
Header – This is the color in the top bar of the system. It will sit ‘behind’ your logo so ideally should be the same color as the background of your logo. If your logo has a transparent background, you can choose any color.
Primary – This is the color that you will see in major parts of the system. For example, goals will show on ‘cards’ on pages like the My Goals page. These goal cards will take the color that you set in primary. This color is normally your ‘main’ branding color (so for our company Cascade, that would be blue).
Secondary – This is sometimes known as an ‘accent’ color. We use it for things like buttons. It is less prominent than the primary color but still important. Give the color will be used for buttons, try to avoid selecting a color which is associated with something else. For example setting this to ‘light grey’ could be confusing for users as they might think that buttons are ‘greyed out’ or not clickable, when actually this is just related to the color you’ve selected.
Status colors apply to the various goal statuses in Cascade – for example ‘Behind’ refers to the color you’ll see for goals which are behind their plan.
You can usually leave these colors as the default options, however if you want to change them, here’s how they each work:
Not Started – Goals with a start date in the future – ie they have no status yet because they are not started.
On Track – Goals which are tracking ok and on plan.
Nearly There* – Goals which are within the system defined ‘tolerance’ level. That is, if you have set a tolerance level of 10% (i.e. goals which should not show as being ‘behind’ until they are at least 10% behind), this is the color which will apply to goals that sit within that tolerance.
Behind – Goals which are behind where they should be against the plan.
Overdue – Goals which are not completed and have passed their due date.
Complete – Goals which are completed.
*If you don’t see the ‘Nearly There’ option, you may need to enable this on your instance. Contact our support team for assistance.
When you’ve finished adding your logo and colors, hit the ‘Apply’ button. The system will save your changes and reload the page. Navigate through a few different pages to ensure everything looks the way you want.
Note: Customers on one of our Enterprise PLUS plans can further customize the branding of the system, including renaming the tool itself and removing most references to ‘Cascade’ from the system.
